Bulk of the collection consists of maps of the western hemisphere, North America, United States, Mexico, and the Southwestern region, all showing Texas in various stages of its exploration and development; together with publications by Old Maps of the Southwest, which include facsimile maps, detailed description, and other source material including three publications on U.S. Army exploration and mapping of the Big Bend Region, Tex., under the leadership of William H. Echols (d. 1909) and Edward L. Hartz (1832-1868).
